CLINICAL PARASITOLOGY

Referring to temporary or permanently residing to a host

PROGLOTTID

Inactive stage of protozoan

CYST

The active or vegetative stage of protozoan

TROPHOZOITE

Refers to a host that has low level parasite load which is clinically undetectable

PREMUNITION

Invertebrate living organism that could transmit pathogen

VECTOR

Inanimate objects that could transmit pathogens

FOMITE

Vector for Malaria

FEMALE ANOPHELES

Vector for Dengue

AEDES AEGYPTI

disease which can be transmitted to humans from animals

ZOONOSIS

the period between infection and evidence of symptoms.

INCUBATION PERIOD

This is the initiation of new infection into another host or the stage of the parasite where it is capable of entering the host

INFECTIVE STAGE

Developmental stage of a pathogenic organism which can be detected already

DIAGNOSTIC STAGE

the process of inoculating and infective agent

EXPOSURE

connotes the establishment of the infective agent in the host.

INFECTION

also known as the biologic incubation period, is the period between infection or acquisition of the parasite and evidence of demonstration of infection.

PRE PATENT PERIOD

when an infected individual becomes his own direct source of infection.

AUTOINFECTION

happens when the already infected individual is further infected with the same species leading to massive infection with the parasite.

SUPERINFECTION

The invasion of the body by any pathogenic organism except arthropods

INFECTION

Refers to the establishment of arthropods within the host

INFESTATION

Organisms may develop unique relationships due to their habitual and long associations with one another.

PARASITE HOST RELATIONSHIP

the living together of unlike organisms. It may involve protection or other advantages to one or both partners

SYMBIOSIS

a symbiotic relationship in which two species live together and one species benefits from the relationship without harming or benefiting the other.

COMMENSALISM

a symbiosis in which two organisms mutually benefit from each other.

MUTUALISM

a symbiotic relationship where one organism, the parasite, live in or on another, depending on the latter for its survival and usually, at the expense of the host.

PARASITISM

Type of parasite that is established inside of a host

ENDOPARASITE

Type of parasite that is established in or on the exterior surface of a host like ticks

ECTOPARASITE

Type of parasite that permanently depends completely to the host to metabolize shelter and transportation

OBLIGATORY PARASITE

Type of parasite that is temporarily resides or capable of existing independently of a host. It is also capable of opportunistic infection

FACULTATIVE PARASITE

Also known as primary or final host which maturation or sexual phase of parasite development occurs

DEFINITIVE HOST

Type of host in which the larval asexual phase of parasite development occurs. It is also requires secondary host

INTERMEDIATE HOST

Type of host in wherein parasite in the intermediate host undergoes multiplication

AMPLIFIER HOST

Type of host which harbor parasites that are parasitic for humans and from which humans may become infected. This maintain the life cycle of a parasite

RESERVOIR HOST

This describes the host that does not necessary for the development of a particular species of a parasite can only maintain the life cycle of a parasite

PARATENIC HOST

Type of host responsible for transferring a parasite from one location to another

TRANSPORT HOST

Parasite harboring host that is not exhibiting any clinical symptoms but can infect others

CARRIER

Type of hose other than the normal one that is harboring a parasite

ACCIDENTAL HOST

Survival of one or both of the organism they are being dependent to each other

OBLIGATIVE MUTUALISM

Survival of one or both of the organism they are being independent to each other

FACULTATIVE MUTUALISM

Living together, the association of 2 living organisms , each of a different species

SYMBIOSIS

Association of 2 different species of organisms that is beneficial to one and neutral to the other

COMMENSALISM

Association of 2 different organisms that is beneficial to one at the others expense

PARASITISM

Parasite that has demonstrated the ability to cause disease

PATHOGENIC
