Firearms that does not contain rifling or perfectly smooth from end to end

SMOOTHBORE FIREARM

Firearms that contain rifling's or the bore is out longitudinally with number of grooves. ex. pistols, revolvers, rifles etc.

Types of firearm according to Caliber of Projectiles Propelled

artillery, small arms

Those types of firearms that propel projectiles 1 inch or more diameter

ARTILLERY

Those types of firearms that propel projectiles less than 1 inch in diameter

SMALL ARMS

Types of firearms According To Mechanical Construction

single shot firearms, repeating firearms, bolt action type firearm, lever action type, slide action type, semi-automatic type, automatic action type, machinegun type, submachine-gun type, shotguns

Those types of firearm that is designed to shoot only one shot

SINGLE SHOT FIREARM

This type is loaded with more than one (1) cartridge into the chamber when it is fired having to perform this operation by hand

REPEATING ARMS

A firearm which the breech closure is (1) in line with the bore at all times, (2) manually reciprocated to load, unload and cock (3) and is locked in place by breech bolt lugs and engaging abutments usually in the receiver

BOLT ACTION TYPE

A design wherein the breech mechanism is cycled by an external lever generally below the receiver such as Rifle & Shotgun

LEVER ACTION TYPE

A firearm which features a movable forearm which is manually actuated in motion parallel to the barrel by the shooter. Also known as PUMP ACTION

SLIDE ACTION TYPE

A firearm requiring a seperate pull of the trigger for each shot fired, and which uses the energy of discharge to perform a portion of the operating or firing cycle

SEMIAUTOMATIC TYPE

A firearm design thay feeds cartridges, fire and ejects cartridge cases as long as the trigger is fully depressed and there are cartridges available in the feed system

AUTOMATIC TYPE

Primarily used only in military combat and will seldom be encountered by the firearms technician

MACHINEGUN TYPE

Is a light, portable machine gun which uses pistol size ammunition. It differs from pistolin that it has a shoulder stock which may or may not fold but is designed to be fired by the use of both hands

SUBMACHINE-GUN TYPE

Kinds of Shotguns

single barrelled shotgun, double barrelled shotgun, pump action shotgun, auto loading shotgun

it is loaded with a single shotgun cartridge, closed, fired and then reloaded by the shooter

SINGLE BARRELLED SHOTGUN

the two barrels may be side by side or they may be one over other. Each barrel may have its own trigger

DOUBLE BARRELLED SHOTGUN

operates in the same manner as a slide action eifles, by means of a sliding lever under the barrel

PUMP ACTION SHOTGUN

these are the sameas auto-loading or self-loadjng rifles in that the recoil action reloads the gun from the magazine without any effort on the part of the shooter

AUTO LOADING SHOTGUN
