To repeat the main aspect when it is obscured from view. Mainly used on curved platforms. Illuminated OFF indicates the signal is at proceed. Extinguished OFF indicates the signal is at danger. The signal cannot show the colour aspect of the signal it applies to.

To repeat the main aspect when it is obscured from view – mainly used on curved sections of track, 200 meters from the signal it applies to. Can be seen on platforms too. 45 degree angle indicates signal is at proceed; horizontal indicates signal is at danger.

Green – proceed – continue at line speed Double yellow preliminary caution proceed signal – be prepared for a drop in speed Single yellow – caution proceed signal 0 reduce speed the next signal is likely to be red Red – at danger – stop

Any stop signals from platform staff Is the train fully platformed Any other hazards that may require your doors to remain closed

So that the driver has the opportunity to give you 2-2 (Do not open the doors) They may pull forward or may have overrun the platforms

Deactivate panel/ turn train key into off position as minimum, or remove your keys from the panel in order not to cause a dispatch irregularity . On an azuma do not put keys into the panel.

Liaise with driver to determine doors that will not be accommodated and utilise staff where appropriate. The TM can either lock the doors out of use or place staff at the doors to prevent passengers trying to use the door. Announce to passengers so that they can place themselves in the correct position

Pull a passcom or apply the brake to prevent accidental movement of the train by mis-communication

The dispatch matrix is a risk assessed procedure that allows the TM to be in the optimal position to see the start signal and be able to view the platform the longest period of time. Giving the TM the opportunity to stop the train if needed

Exceptional circumstances only/ Genuine operational reason (Door fault, full and standing) Come to a clear understanding with the dispatcher and when appropriate inform control (For advising stations ahead)

After accepting the train safety check complete hand signal and the train doors are secured, including your local door. Where appropriate interlock has been gained. Make sure both hand signals have been accepted as normal. TM has boarded the train and closed their door before ready to start flag or lamp is displayed out of a drop light window

Keep your green flag or green lamp indication out of sight in a pocket or within the train until you are able to give the ready to start to the driver

Raise both hands above your head. Communicate with the dispatcher and come to a clear understanding on how to proceed Possibly deviating from the matrix or accepting an alternative pre-agreed hand signaller
