a.명사의 종류와 주의할 용법

고유명사, 물질명사, 추상명사는 불가산명사. the+단수 보통명사=추상명사 집합명사 There was a large audience at the rock concert. The audience were all greatly moved by his speech. He supports a large family. Two families live in this house. 부정관사를 붙일 수 없고, 복수형을 쓸 수 없는 집합명사 Police형 집합명사: police, clergy, aristocracy, gentry, nobility, peasantry: 보통 the와 함께 쓰며, 복수 취급. a policeman(o), the policeman(x) cattle형 집합명사: cattle, people, vermin, poultry 등은 단지 약간수의 모임이며, 집합의 한계가 없다. 단지 그대로 복수로 취급. 물질집합명사: furniture, clothing, machinery, produce, game, beggage, merchandise 등은 물건의 집합체이지만 양으로 다루므로 부정관사가 안 붙고, 항상 단수 취급. 이들은 a piece of, an article of, much, little 등으로 양표시를 한다. 물질명사의 수량 표시:a cup of, a piece of, a pound of 등을 쓴다.
