Migrating from Anki

This guide explains how to import a text file (.txt) exported from Anki into TestMaker.

1. Export from Anki

  1. Open Anki on your computer and select "Export" from the gear icon of the deck you want to migrate.
  2. Choose "Notes in Plain Text (.txt)" as the export format.
  3. Check "Include tags" to carry your tags over to TestMaker.
  4. Press "Export" and save the file.

2. Import into TestMaker

  1. Open the import screen from the workbook creation menu or the "CSV" tab on the question creation screen.
  2. Select the exported .txt file and import it.

The file format is detected automatically, so no extra settings are needed.

4. Notes

  • Text exports (.txt) do not contain media files, so images and audio are not imported.
  • Cloze deletion syntax ({{c1::...}}) is imported as plain text.
  • On the free plan, a workbook can hold up to 100 questions. To migrate a larger deck, consider upgrading to the premium plan or splitting the deck.
  • If the import fails, make sure the file is saved in UTF-8.
