Initiates the appropriate Health and Safety procedures [See Section OPS 7000], if a hazard in the workplace contributed to the member's injury or illness. 12. If the member was transported to a hospital: a. responds to his location, b. interviews the member, if not already interviewed at the scene, c. obtains the medical reports, including a hospital report stating the diagnosis and the doctor's name. 13. If the member's details of an injury or illness are inconsistent with the investigation results, a. conducts a further investigation, b. notifies MAO as soon as practical. 14. Notifies the Desk Officer of details of the incident.

Forwards the following to the Clerk: a. PDCN Form 206, b. PDCN Form 206A, c. PDCN Form 427, d. PDCN Form 428, e. PDCN Form 429, f. Workers' Compensation Form C-2, g. medical reports.

    4. Reviews the reports and forms. 5. If the injury or illness was sustained while off duty and not within the scope of official duties, [Go to step D.10]. 6. Evaluates all reports and forms and consults with a Police Surgeon to determine if the injury or illness is compensable or covered under the General Municipal Law. 9. Determines that the person to be notified is not home, and a. inquires with neighbors whether or not they know when the person may be home or where the person may be located, b. notifies the Desk Officer of the results of the inquiry.

Determines that a notification cannot be made because the person to be notified is away for an extended period of time at a known location, and a. contacts the requesting person or agency advising of the person's location if the requesting person or agency is from outside the Desk Officer's precinct [End of Procedure], or b. contacts the police agency having jurisdiction over the location of the person to be notified and requests that agency make the notification if the request for notification originated from the Desk Officer's precinct. 12. Briefs the Desk Officer of the next tour when attempts to notify were negative and future attempts are necessary. 15. Ensures entries are made in Department records detailing the actions taken.

Obtains background information on the mental aided person such as: a. current problem, b. mental/medical history, c. prescription/illegal drugs being taken, d. history of substance use/abuse, e. behavior prior to police arrival, f. past violent behavior. 10. Treats as an aided case [See OPS 1110] if the behavior is not due to mental illness [End of Procedure]. 11. If the mental aided person requests to go to the hospital, [Go to Step 21]. 12. Determines if the mental aided person is conducting themselves in a manner which is likely to result in serious harm to themselves or others [See Definition]. Note: Police Officers may be assigned to assist the MCOT [See Definition]. The QMHP [See Definition] from the MCOT will make the determination as to the mental aided person's likelihood to cause serious harm to themselves or others. 13. If the MCOT is at scene, a. verifies the identification of the QMHP by viewing either of the following: 1) Nassau County Department of Mental Health photo identification, or (2) copy of the QMHP designation letter. receives a completed copy of OMH Form 482, Mobile Crisis Outreach Team Authorization for Transport, from the QMHP if the mental aided person will be transported. Police Officer 14. If the mental aided person is not conducting themselves in a manner which is likely to result in serious harm to themselves or others, but may need evaluation, a. makes a referral to the MCOT, b. documents the referral in the narrative/case report, including the status of the referral and the name of the person contacted at the MCOT, Note: Members will also document in the narrative/case report instances when MCOT could not be reached and a voicemail message was left. c. calls CB Supervisor and reports the status of the referral, d. reports the disposition of the assignment. Note: Members should only provide the public with the number 227-TALK (8255) when providing contact information for MCOT. 15. If the mental aided person is conducting themselves in a manner which is likely to result in serious harm to themselves or others, a. secures the immediate area to facilitate taking subject into custody, and b. notifies Communications Bureau (CB) of the precise location and requests additional assistance as necessary. Note: MHL §9.41 authorizes a Police Officer to take into custody any person who appears to be mentally ill and is conducting themselves in a manner which is likely to result in serious harm to themselves or others. The custody is for transportation to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation. 16. If the mental aided person has a firearm or has a weapon capable of causing imminent risk to persons beyond the immediate scene, a. initiates the Use of Force procedure [See OPS 12410], b. notifies and requests BSO to respond to scene. 17. If at any point when dealing with a mental aided person the circumstances develop into a hostage incident/barricaded person [See Definitions] situation, initiates the Hostage Incident/Barricaded Person procedure [See OPS 12600]. 18. Requests Emergency Services Unit (ESU) for specialized restraining equipment and/or protective equipment [See OPS 12230] if the mental aided person is: a. violent, or b. armed with a weapon, other than a firearm [See Glossary] or longarm, and (1) does not pose a threat to a non-department member(s), and (2) is situated in a location where the mental aided is actively resisting police entry.

    19. Responds to scene, and a. evaluates the situation, b. verifies that initial notifications to CB have been made, c. establishes control related to the use of force [See OPS 12410], d. directs the use of specialized restraining and protective equipment, if needed, e. notifies Desk Officer with details of the situation and provides updates as the situation develops.
