People from all walks of life are getting involved in politics these days.

As a result, there is greater diversity across age and gender among politicians.

This varies greatly in different countries, however.

It becomes clearer when we look at the statistics on the age and gender of people in politics across different countries.

各国の政治に携わる人々の年齢と性別に関する統計を見ると、それがより明確になります。

Let’s look at Table 1, which shows the average percentages of women in politics in various world regions, specifically women in parliament.

表 1 を見てみましょう。これは、世界のさまざまな地域の政治における女性の平均割合、特に議会における女性の割合を示しています。

The world average percentage is just above a quarter, which means one in four members is a woman.

世界の平均割合は 4 分の 1 をわずかに上回っており、これは会員の 4 人に 1 人が女性であることを意味します。

Nordic countries (northern European countries such as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland) are listed as a separate value, 45.7%, because these countries have much higher percentages than the other European countries.

北欧諸国（デンマーク、ノルウェー、スウェーデン、フィンランドなどの北ヨーロッパ諸国）は、他のヨーロッパ諸国よりも割合がはるかに高いため、45.7% という別の値としてリストされています。

That is, the percentage for Europe without Nordic countries is more than 15 percentage points lower than that of Nordic countries.

Turning to Asia, we note that the figure of 21.2% is lower than the world average.

Interestingly, based on separate data for individual countries, in Japan, women only account for 10% of the House of Representatives.

興味深いことに、各国別のデータに基づくと、日本では衆議院議員の女性の割合はわずか 10% にすぎません。

This is the reason why Japan is ranked 164th for women in politics by the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

これが、列国議会同盟による女性政治家ランキングで日本が164位にランクされている理由です。

In addition to gender balance, let’s consider the ages of politicians in parliament across different countries, shown in Table 2.

男女のバランスに加えて、表 2 に示す各国の議会の政治家の年齢を考慮してみましょう。

It is important to note that most Nordic countries have the youngest politicians.

ほとんどの北欧諸国には最年少の政治家がいるということに注意することが重要です。

Even among countries with relatively low average ages, the percentages politicians who are 30 or younger vary greatly－from 2.5% in the United Arab Emirates to 13.6% in Norway.

平均年齢が比較的低い国の中でも、30 歳以下の政治家の割合はアラブ首長国連邦の 2.5% からノルウェーの 13.6% まで大きく異なります。

Young people today may feel they don’t know enough about politics to vote.

今日の若者は、投票するほど政治について十分な知識がないと感じているかもしれません。

However, with a greater diversity of politicians in age and gender, they might feel more confident about voting and become excited about the opportunity to have their voices heard.

しかし、政治家の年齢や性別の多様性が増したことにより、政治家はより自信を持って投票することができ、自分たちの声を聞いてもらう機会に興奮するようになるかもしれません。

After all, the more people who contribute to society, the greater our chances of tackling the many challenges in our lives.

結局のところ、社会に貢献する人が増えれば増えるほど、人生における多くの課題に取り組むチャンスも大きくなります。
